MOT checks conducted at Yama Motors

The experienced technicians at Yama Motors will first check the car’s MOT history to determine any recurrent issues and then start the checks. Some of the car parts that we inspect in our MOT test include:

Exhaust emissions

At Yama Motors, our expert technicians use handheld monitors to determine exhaust issues in an MOT test. They inspect the exhaust system and the emissions and check whether there is any noise or leakage of any dangerous gas like NO2, SO2 and CO.

Seatbelts

Our MOT test includes inspecting the proper functioning of seatbelts, elasticity and secure attachments.

Steering

In an MOT test, our experts observe the corrosion of power steering pipes, functionality of the steering lock mechanism and steering oil level. Electronic steering systems and locks also require inspecting the wheel misalignment and dashboard warning lights.

Suspension

We check the suspension system that includes shock absorbers, linkages, springs, etc. Our expert technicians push down every corner and examine whether it settles back to its standard height.

Lights

To check the operation of lights, we examine the LED (light-emitting diode) and HID (high-density discharge) conditions. Also, we test the security, aim, cleanliness and self-levelling capacity of the beam warning lights and headlights.

Besides these, we also look into the vehicle’s mirrors, windscreen, horns, doors, tyres and wheels, and other components.

Driving a vehicle that has failed an MOT test is illegal under the UK regulations (except when driving to an MOT centre with a valid MOT appointment). It can lead to hefty fines and other legal issues.

Once the checks are complete, we will issue a VT20 or VT30 certificate based on the test results. The VT30 certificate issued in case of MOT failure will have all the issues listed. You can get these issues resolved with us, after which you can opt for a partial re-test at a reduced rate.
